This Sunday is so close to my heart. And this scripture.... There was a day many years ago where this verse really came alive to me. A line drawn in the sand. I had read it, I don't know how many times before, and yet on this day it had a whole new weight to it. It felt as if God had written these words to me specifically. And I felt so convicted. I found myself thinking" The Word of God is very, very clear here, and if I am doing nothing to care for the orphan then where is my faith?!?!?" It was all of a sudden very black and white to me. This is something that deeply matters to God and if I was doing nothing about it, then what does that say about my love for Him? It wasn't the kind of conviction that left me feeling terribly guilty. But the kind that made me want to be better. Do better. Love better. The kind of conviction that compells you. I didn't know at the time that this was just one small step down the path of adoption for us. This was just one of many God moments that changed the entire course of our lives. For generations to come. Today, I am so thankful for The Holy Spirit moments of conviction. Because in finding myself compelled to care for the orphan I have been so blessed. Blessed beyond measure. 1000 times fold. "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27
